Diver Dan's needs your help to target underwater and shoreline debris in Kenosha. Project AWARE Foundation, coordinates underwater clean up events and urges divers and volunteers to jump in their wetsuits, pull on their gloves and make a splash for trash! Divers are the guardians of our underwater environments – they often see first hand the effects of marine debris on our delicate ecosystem. Diver Dan's is working with S.T.A.R.S International and Kenosha Unified Schools to bring this unique program to Kenosha. The S.T.A.R.S International (Scuba Training At-Risk Students) program was modeled after two years of field-tested pilot programs in the greater Chicago, Illinois area in 2005 and 2006. S.T.A.R.S International is focused solely on at-risk youth (ages 13-17) with the goal to provide a positive diversionary activity incorporating scuba diving which reinforces and supports local academic achievement and career development. Candidates must be predetermined to exude traits qualifying them as “at-risk” teens and be nominated by local or civic authority figure. S.T.A.R.S International encompasses an eighteen month curriculum spanning two academic years. The first 12 months of the program target development of the candidate’s diving skills and interests, whereas the subsequent 6 months leverage participant’s confidence and leadership skills to assist development of new candidates. Diver Dan's Scuba & Aquatic Center announces that we have just been awarded the upgrade to a "Five Star Dive Center" for SDI, TDI, and ERDI. We are very excited to add this new array of course offerings.
Both students and instructors have embraced the no nonsense approach that the SDI training system offers. SDI has streamlined the course materials to let students study the essential academics with an emphasis on practical diving skills learned in both the pool and open water environments. SDI is the only agency to require students to be taught with modern dive computers from the onset of training.
